MEGA BLOGGING MARATHON -SEPT 2017 #80TH BLOGGING MARATHON THEME: PROTEIN RICH DISHES DAY:26     Today is the last day of the Mega Blogging Marathon and what an experience it has been for me. Planning, researching, deciding, drafting and commenting. I've thoroughly enjoyed this marathon. I've made new blogger friends, learnt so much about different regional cuisines from them and we have nearly 442 protein rich dishes between 17 bloggers. That certainly takes care of protein intake from starters to desserts. At this juncture I must thank fellow blogger Veena of Veena's Vegnation . She casually asked me why I was not taking part in the Mega Marathon and I replied I don't think I can post a recipe for every day for a month with only Sunday being the day off. After that I thought why not and wrote to Srivalli to count me in.     I love baking, be it cookies, cakes or breads. However, when it comes to decorating cakes and cupcakes, I probably have two l...

MEGA BLOGGING MARATHON -SEPT 2017 #80TH BLOGGING MARATHON THEME: PROTEIN RICH DISHES DAY:13    Plastic is becoming a mega concern world over as the land and oceans are getting littered with this 'we love to use it so much' product. Low production cost, easy to manufacture, versatile, impervious to water, easily moldable, has made this product so popular world over that its used right from pins heads to space ships. Its replaced wood, metal, glass, ceramic, paper, stone, leather etc. However, misuse of plastic has caused it to become as one of the major environmental threats to the world. Its alarming that minute particles are making their way to our food. Both land and sea animals are ingesting plastic and this in turn is landing up on our plates.    You might be wondering why am I talking about plastic here instead of food. Well, as some of my ardent followers know, my blog is not just for recipes but its also where I share news, my experiences ...

A rich cuisine        Every week my blogging scene is a bit like the following - try and prepare and write out the post before or on Monday. I wait impatiently to see what the rest of the #FoodieMonday #Bloghop members have made pertaining to the chosen theme, then I visit the posts and comment on them. Tuesday the group whatsapp goes all haywire as we try and decide on the theme. So basically we get 5 days to prepare the dish. But 5 days just fly and by Sunday I'm thinking "oh dear my dish is not ready". Then its like a storm in the kitchen. Well that's the scene nowadays till my daughter gets married. When I'm in Mombasa I usually have the dish ready before Saturday as usually hubby and I go to our beach apartment to spend the weekend.        Coming to our #67th theme for the #FoodieMonday#Bloghop, we decided to explore the #Mughlai cuisine . We all make something or the other with rich gravy or exotic biryanis, succulent kebabs without giving...

Satvik Food   According to the Ayurveda(Indian traditional medicine), food is divided into 3 main groups, Satvik (Satvic), Tamasic and Rajasic. Food not only nourishes the body but affects the mind too. In this fast paced world our food is not only loaded with chemicals through fertilizers, canning, processing but we tend to overindulge in fast foods that are bad for our body, mind and health. We all get tempted by cheesy pizzas, delish bakes, silky chocolates.   Satvik foods are smooth, savory, easy to digest, light and fresh. Satvik foods encourage mental clarity, good health and peace.Foods belonging to this group are rich in Prana(life force). Foods included in this category are basically lacto vegetarian foods like fresh fruits, vegetables, fresh diary products, grains and pulses, natural sugars, nuts and seeds.Consuming these foods balances out the destructive gunas and keeps our mind calm, positive and healthy. Following a satvik diet eliminates the Tamasic and Rajasic g...

very tempting    For the month of February, the International Food Challenge was Bordeaux cuisine. The recipes were given by Saraswathi. Bordeaux is the port city on River Garonne in the south west region of France. It is famous for its wine as it sits in the wine region of France. Bordeaux is famous for shopping, wining and dining. We had a choice of French vanilla and rum cakes, Bordeaux cookies or Mesclun salad. Since I have baked a lot for the past two months I decided on making the salad.    What is mesclun? Mesclun comes from the Provençal word mescla (to mix) which literally means mixture. Mesclun is a mixture of young spring time edible leaves. The mixture can have arugula, spinach, endive, chervil, mustard greens, swiss chard, mache, lettuces and sometimes added with edible flowers like nasturtiums, dandelions or rose petals. These young leaves add a flavorful taste to the preparation. Goat cheese, other salad vegetables, dried fruits, onions, shallots etc are...

Good to be back     Its been nearly 5 weeks since I have not blogged a recipe. That seems a long time. However, cooking did not stop for those 5 weeks. Like most mothers I wanted to feed everything to my daughter in the time we were with her. That includes eating out also. Over the years HSR Layout in Bangalore has grown by leaps and bounds. When my daughter first started college there, we rented an apartment near the college. At that time besides 2 main grocery stores and a Tamil cuisine take away, there was not much on the 27th Main Road. Slowly new shops and a restaurant appeared. However in the past 2-3 years HSR Layout has become a very busy hub with shops, restaurants, banks, schools, medical centers, a busy BDA complex, supermarkets, fruit and vegetable shops, etc. We no longer have to go all the way to Koramangala or Indiranagar for things. The Outer Ring road is completely changed with malls and IT parks. During this visit what I noticed sadly is that greenery is...
