Exotic Name, Exotic Dish    Diwali week is ever so busy in general, but more so for me this year as my maid decided not to come to work and to top it up came down with a bad flu and fever. So I nearly sat out this theme. What am I talking about? Its the FoodieMonday/Bloghop day. The #115th theme - Awadhi Cuisine was decided by Kriti who blogs at Krispy Kadhai.      I was really in no mood or didn't have the energy to really do any research on that cuisine. However, eat we all must whether sick or not and I had a huge slab of paneer staring at me whenever I opened the fridge. So, do you get those days when with much vigor and power you want to tackle all the jobs from top to bottom and from side to side? Well, I had one of those days...with a runny nose and a heavy head, tackled the house work, cooked lunch and baked a batch of cookies to give away as presents. I finally managed to turn the slab of paneer into an exotic sabji. Paneer Kundan Kaliya...just the nam...

A happy and peaceful Eid    The month long fasting period is over and its time to celebrate Eid. Fasting for a whole month without water and carrying on with ones work and routine is not easy. Shops and malls are decorated, shops are busy and open till late. Delicious food is sent home by Muslim friends and tempting aromas waft through from neighbours homes. To celebrate Eid this year I decided to make Sheer Khurma. Sheer is milk and khurma is dates in the Persian language. Sheer Khurma is made as a breakfast treat on Eid and also as a dessert. Its usually served the whole day to guests.Certain ingredients may vary according to...

An exotic flat bread       Aparna of My Diverse Kitchen chose Sheermal for our group We Knead to Bake  for the month of November. Had I heard of sheermal before? Yes, but and I had written it down to try it out. I had come across the recipe for sheermal by Tarla Dalal and Sanjeev Kapoor. So when I went through the recipe that Aparna gave us, I was pretty excited Finally I was going to bake Sheermal. In the meantime other members had already baked it and shared a few of their experiences. Most of sheermal photos sent to our facebook page looked so perfect, delicious, well baked and rich.      I made mine today. I must admit that I had totally forgotten that we had to post the recipe today on our blog. I had presumed that I still had till the end of the month. A gentle reminder from Aparna, made me sit upright. So early in the morning the dough was kneaded and by lunch time hubby dear had lovely sheermal with corn curry.      What is shee...
