GUEST NO. 5 ON THE BLOG   I'm trying to feature my family and friends on my blog weekly. However, last week I couldn't feature any guest as I was down with a bad flu and fever. Still getting over the nasty cough, its very persistent.      This week my guest is my sister in law Arti (my brother's wife). When I asked her to write a recipe for the blog, her immediate reaction was 'ahahhaa that's not me Mayuriben that is something you do! I don't measure and cook, I don't know what to make' and the excuses kept on coming. (shhh we'll get her to give us the recipe when cranberries are in season ;)) Anyway I left it up to her to decide what she would like to make and of course measure (she hates that). After a few weeks, my whatsapp is busy "toinking" away. I check my mobile to see who is persistently sending me messages and its Ar...

Happy Mother's Day   It's Monday (don't they come fast) and our 39th theme for      #FoodieMonday#Bloghop is #MothersDaySpecial . For this theme we were allowed to make something special for our mums or prepare one of their recipes. I chose to prepare one of my mum's all time famous and popular dish, her maida parothas. When she became too sick to cook, I had on occasions prepared these parothas for her and she enjoyed them.My mum mostly made Gujarati style food. Her secret was to keep it simple, using simple fresh ingredients. Part of the reason for starting my blog was to note down some of her famous recipes before they just got lost. Its a pity she never got to see how many of her recipes I have made. I've made her favourite dishes and her specialities. She loved idl...

back to normal     Now that the festivities are over, its nice to get back to routine. Don't get me wrong, I love Diwali. However, I tend to get so busy like everyone else and sometimes it seems that I am not going to be able to cope. Preparing mithai, full lunches, presents, treats, decorating the house, rangoli, diyas. The list is endless. I get so overwhelmed by the endless bookmarked recipes, that I want to prepare everything. Next Diwali I am going to make a list and stick to it. No stress and no fretting. The hot weather also does not help. By afternoon I am exhausted. This hot weather will now last till February. This time round for one of the Diwali lunches, where I had invited guests I wanted to make stuffed pepper as starters. Instead of buying the normal bell peppers, I decided to buy the long ones. The greengrocer assured me that they were just like the sweet peppers but only the shape was different. When I cut the pepper into half, instinct told me taste a wee bit...
