Cute bread rolls Theme: Surfing Through The Caribbeans BM #81- Day 2    Today we are visiting Guyana. Its a sovereign state on the northern mainland of South America. Before you think I've got my facts wrong about the Caribbeans, Guyana though not an island in the Caribbean, it is a part of the Caribbean region mainly because of its strong cultural, historical and political ties with the Anglo Caribbean countries and the Caribbean community. Let's break bread internationally    What is bread? Bread is basically flour and water mixed together and then either baked, roasted or fried. Different parts of the world use different flours and different ingredients are added to make it soft, with crumbs, with flavor and to give it a required texture. Most part of the world considers some form of bread as their staple diet except for East Asia where the stable is rice and some African countries where the staple is cornmeal cooked into a porridge like consistency. We have the more famous brioche, baguettes, rye breads, naans, parathas to less heard of breads like dorayaki, kaya, lahoh. The list of different breads all over the world is endless.    For the month of September, our host Wendy who blogs at A Day in the Life on the Farm suggested we make International Breads, preferably from another country and not your own. Wendy thanks for the exciting theme. It was really diffic...

Its good to be back    For the past few months I'd been so busy that baking challenges from the We Knead to Bake group took a back seat.I was busy preparing for my daughter's wedding. The wedding went well and now I'm back to my routine. I've got quite a bit of catching up to do... Aug, Sept, Oct, Nov and Dec. Oh dear!  I managed to bake the challenge set for the month of January by a co- member of the group Amruta Kapileshwar Gaikwad. She asked us to bake Cilantro Scallion Rolls. Initially I did frown at the combination of tahini, honey, scallion and cilantro. While cilantro and scallion were not too much of a problem, I was wondering how a combination of honey and tahini would taste. Anyway, plunged into the deep end and decided to bake the rolls as given. Thank you Amruta for the challenge, loved the taste of the rolls.       I must say the rolls tasted so delicious with a bit of the honey. I added chilli flakes. Don't know why but ever since I've ...

Belated Happy Father's Day     In between airports and rushing around like zombies with red shot eyes, I didn't get to wish my dad on Father's Day. I belong to the generation that takes hours to figure out how to access the free wifi at airports and by the time I do, its time to board the flight. There was a lot drama involved in catching our flight to Montreal. Our flight was on Friday 17 June to Doha and from there to Montreal. So the whole schedule was stuck in my head as leaving Friday night and reaching Montreal on Sat afternoon. By Thur night we are packed, planned Friday lunch in such a way that I would use up the last bits of veggies left. Thursday night after midnight my hubby's phone rings. Its one of those basic Nokia ones so the longer it rings the louder it gets. Hubby was snoring away to dreamland, and unable to sleep,I was reading. Initially, I just wanted to ignore the call and then several unpleasant thoughts flashed in a second in my mind... is it from...

comfort food on a rainy day Theme: Redo Old Posts BM#85  Week 4 Day 2      25/02/2018    When I look back at my old posts, I sometimes think 'really did I take those pictures?' Not that I'm any better now as there's still so much to learn about photography and styling. However, I do want to give myself a pat on my back as I certainly have made improvements. Some may think redoing a post is easy but seriously it is not. There are some I consciously make an effort to make again, remember to take photos and go back and re write the write up, add new photos make corrections to grammatical mistakes etc etc. And then there is the sharing bit on all social media. Most of my old posts will not have been tweeted or you wouldn't find them on Instagram. Basic recipes that I make so many times, I just forget to take the photos. When I have to share them or use them to attach to other posts, I just want to cringe and kick myself for not remember...
