MEGA BLOGGING MARATHON -SEPT 2017 #80TH BLOGGING MARATHON THEME: PROTEIN RICH DISHES DAY:11     I have always envied bloggers who get all the ingredients they need for their recipes. However my hubby thinks otherwise. He claims that if I did have access to all the ingredients I'd be living in my kitchen,he would put on weight and my neighbors would not prepare food in their homes! Well, that's not entirely true. There are days when I don't even want to lift a spoon, forget about preparing anything. At that time making a simple khichdi too becomes a humungous task.    Since Srivalli announced the Mega Blogging Marathon theme, Veena a co member and blogger asked me why I wasn't taking part. I told her that I definitely will not manage preparing 26 dishes for this theme. After a few days I changed my mind and wrote to Srivalli. I wanted to take the challenge up and also because my daughter and I are always looking out for vegetarian protein rich di...

very berry yummy       Today was not such a great day for me. From the time I woke up I was on the go and trying to juggle so many chores all together. In all this what did I sacrifice? My exercise. By noon I was feeling a bit relieved that chores were getting ticked off my list. However come evening and again I experienced a general slum in my overall existence. Felt bad that I sacrificed exercise to do other chores. I questioned myself and thought why didn't I sacrifice my meal time? However, things had to be done so there was no other option. To add to the fight for time, I had to sit at the national id card office for over two hours. According to their records my new id card was prepared and ready. However, they couldn't find it. I knew that if I left their office leaving the relevant details with them, nothing will be done. I will be forgotten and would still have to spend the same amount of time waiting for my id card. Till it was time for them to close they could n...

Happy Raksha Bandhan     My post is a bit late for Raksha Bandhan day but these days in a fast hectic life with all modern technology, late posts are normal. Imagine, the rakhi that should have reached the earliest will probably reached last. The distance to cover was just Mombasa Nairobi. My foreign residing brothers and cousins have all got their rakhis but not my local cousin. As they say snail mail, but according to a BBC report, snails are not as slow as we imagine them to be. They can cover large distances in a short period. Coming back to Raksha Bandhan day, its been ages since I have physically been with my brothers and cousins to tie the rakhis. Perhaps next year. When I was growing up, we all spent a lot of time together as we all lived in Nairobi. Back then the word cousin was rarely used, it was either sisters or brothers. The special bond we all formed then, has remained and though we may not see each other so often, we do have a big family together whenever ...

happy 50th birthday to my dear brother My brother's 50th birthday and I am so far away. Feel a bit jealous as my sister is going to be with him today. Though everyone says that modern communication methods makes the distance smaller, but its not the same as physically being there. My dear brother is a simple, reliable, honest and lovable person. We do have our differences but at the end of the day, he is always there for me, come what may. He is a wonderful uncle to my kids, fun loving, caring and dependable. Nimesh, hope you have a wonderful day today. May God bless you with happiness, good health and may all you wishes come true. To celebrate your birthday, I have made a lovely orange cheesecake. Sending it to you virtually and will let you know how it was :)  After the scare of salmonella and e.coli in raw eggs, I am very skeptical about using them in the uncooked form. So I really do not make cheesecake with raw eggs. I love the way some food brands include a recipe on their pa...

passionate about a passion fruit I have been away for a long time. Some of my friends have been asking whether I have stopped blogging. The answer is definitely not. December was just too hectic.... family wedding, guests and a bugging flu and fever with a persistent cough. Still getting over the cough. I have been cooking and noting down the measurements. My note book is filled with squiggly fonts in red, black and blue. I had to start blogging before those squiggly fonts become indecipherable to me. Last week some friends came over for dessert and   I made some cheesecake. Most cold cheesecakes have eggs or are gelatin based. I tried out the cheesecake using agar agar flakes and loved the end result. Instead of cream cheese I used curd cheese. It is pretty difficult getting some decent cream cheese in Mombasa. I used about 2 litres of yogurt to get the required amount of curd cheese. I was pretty adventurous in trying out a passion fruit flavour cheese cake, but hey it worked. PA...
