I don't mean the internet or media kind of socializing but actually going out there and meeting people? Do you feel going out when you know you're going to meet a certain group of people that you're comfortable with rather than one that you're not comfortable with? Confused??? Well, I know I should be putting on my saris and going out for garbas to my community hall but I just don't feel like going. My hubby thinks that I'm still missing my family and that's why I don't go. If its my Lions Club meeting I want to go. Does that make me a less responsible person towards my community?   Times have changed     I enjoyed reading Femina magazine for many years. I found it covered all areas - housekeeping tips, food, recipes, health, children, fashion, make up ... basically anything that women identified with. It was not entirely a housewife's magazine. It also covered modern issues, balancing home and work, career options, finance and so many other worldly happenings. Then slowly the magazine began to change. More pages on fashion and brands started to appear. Now I find it is like any other fashion magazine and not as a whole package to cater for women from all walks of life and different interests. I have tried many recipes from Femina magazine, picked up numerous tips and drooled over food photos. A salad recipe I tried out from the magazine became an instant hit with our guests. crunchy and healthy  It has been a long time since I have made stir fried vegetables at home. It was a common request by my father in law to make some of it along with fried rice and spring rolls. A visit to one of the greengrocers in Nairobi for just strawberries and I nearly bought the whole shop. Fresh, crunchy vegetables and the first thing that came to my mind was stir fry vegetables. I made some noodles to go along with it as my hubby loves noodles. Any combination of vegetables can be used for stir fries and its quick and healthy. Some Chinese restaurants in Kenya serve chinese dishes loaded with cornflour. They presume that a thick sauce with loads of cornflour makes the dish appealing. I hate the cornflour taste. Some restaurants charge the earth for a dish and use loads of cabbage. I would recommend Bangkok Restaurant to anyone visiting Nairobi. They are the best. The vegetables are crispy, fresh and tasty. The best things in life are free  Recently a good friend of ours shared the above picture on Facebook. I had to share it with my blog followers for many reasons. The first being that many times during the day we forget about the best things in life and concentrate too much on our other meaningless, frustrating and stress giving issues. As soon as I saw the picture, I thought about it and it dawned on me that I am truly blessed. This made me instantly forget a harrowing and frustrating incident that I went through yesterday. It was an eye opener for me as it showed how threatening, menacing, mean and arrogant some people can get about the position they hold be it in the society, in a company, the government or any work place. Looking at the above picture and the thoughts that followed made me forget the humiliation and look forward in life. shopping delight It has been a week since we arrived in Montreal. The city is full of restaurants and cafes. Its a clean, green and a very arty place. There are a lot of quaint little shops in the area my son Neel lives selling ceramics tableware, crockery,plants, clothes, organic shops, grocery stores, bakeries and so much more. Its wonderful to walk on pavements and where pedestrians have the right of way. Old Montreal is a wonderful place, full of art galleries, restaurants, huge parks, art stores and souvenir shops. The cobbled path, horse drawn carriages is contrasted by a very modern cocktail place right near the port. Our first trip to a small (according to our son it is small and basic) Metro grocery was a delight compared to our enormous Nakumatt. The small store had a much wider choice of breads, fruits, vegetables,cheeses, fresh pasta and I could just go on.
