Happy 50th Birthday Little Sister           April in our huge family is a busy month, birthdays and birthdays and birthdays and an anniversary.  Imagine my sister turning 50. Its funny how you think that all those who are younger to you are probably not getting older. I just spoke to my niece and its her birthday soon, and I thought she was just 22. Same way as I can't believe my sister is turning 50. I know she has grown up kids and all, but difficult to imagine that she is 50. However, these days age is just a number for a lot if us till our body starts aching and we need to hobble out of the bed in the mornings because of stiff bones. Memory is another give away when you just can't remember names. Yesterday I gave a lift to my friend and she asked me which make my little car is. Can you imagine I just couldn't remember... I go "its a Toyota". "Yes but which one", she asked and the name just wouldn't come. After I dropped her home and reached my ga...

Life Values         Last week we went for dinner to Ajay's aunt and uncle's house. I couldn't go empty handed to their house, so I decided to try out one of the bookmarked recipes, custard cookies.I can't remember from where I must have written this recipe. I am so glad that I finally made these cookies. I loved how soft they turned out with the taste of custard. The light lemony colour made the cookies look very attractive but don't think my photos have done justice.        After dinner, we got talking about how family and friends of yesteryear valued relationships. Be it as friends, uncles, aunts, parents, grandparents, brothers or sisters, there was commitment, we helped each other without question, we took care of their children just as our own. What is happening to these values in this modern age? Have we become so self centered that we do not value relationships? Children have no time for parents, aunts and uncles don't even know the names o...

my three hundredth recipe Its a proud moment for me as this is my 300th recipe on my blog. There are so many more recipes to share and try out. But the feeling is great. The support from my hubby, my kids, family and friends has been overwhelming. The opening line for a conversation at a social gathering is my blog. Recently I have had other food bloggers commenting on my blog and its an appreciative feeling to know their opinion and at the same time its like making new friends without actually meeting them in person.... more like modern day penpals. So far my most memorable moment was I received an email from the grandson of the owners of Cosy Tearoom. I had mentioned the name of the restaurant in my blog on dal bhajias and he wrote to me. Its at that moment that I realised how powerful the internet can be. He wrote to me from US. Cosy Tearoom no longer exists but fond memories will live on. I look forward to your valued support and please feel free to leave comments whenever you can....
