Exotic Name, Exotic Dish    Diwali week is ever so busy in general, but more so for me this year as my maid decided not to come to work and to top it up came down with a bad flu and fever. So I nearly sat out this theme. What am I talking about? Its the FoodieMonday/Bloghop day. The #115th theme - Awadhi Cuisine was decided by Kriti who blogs at Krispy Kadhai.      I was really in no mood or didn't have the energy to really do any research on that cuisine. However, eat we all must whether sick or not and I had a huge slab of paneer staring at me whenever I opened the fridge. So, do you get those days when with much vigor and power you want to tackle all the jobs from top to bottom and from side to side? Well, I had one of those days...with a runny nose and a heavy head, tackled the house work, cooked lunch and baked a batch of cookies to give away as presents. I finally managed to turn the slab of paneer into an exotic sabji. Paneer Kundan Kaliya...just the nam...

FOODIEMONDAY/BLOGHOP &  MEGA BLOGGING MARATHON -SEPT 2017 #80TH BLOGGING MARATHON THEME: PROTEIN RICH DISHES/DURGA PUJA DAY:21    This year Durga Pooja/Puja begins on 26th September and ends on 30th September. On these days the Goddess Durga is worshipped with much reverence. Durga Pooja is mainly celebrated in West Bengal, Assam, Bihar, Meghalaya, Manipur and Jharkhand. Months of preparation culminates into these days of Pooja. Pandals are built and idols are made. During this period people also prepare art and cultural programs. Lavish poojas, scrumptious bhog are very much a part of the celebrations.    Ma Durga is a Goddess that was born from the divine powers of the 3 main Gods Brahma, Vishnu and Shiv. She took birth mainly to defeat the evil half man half buffalo demon Mahishasura. Because of the boon granted to him by Brahma, no man or deity could kill him. He became evil and started killing men and waged a war against the Devas. Durga Ma appeared o...

MEGA BLOGGING MARATHON -SEPT 2017 #80TH BLOGGING MARATHON THEME: PROTEIN RICH DISHES DAY:4    Anywhere you go, for dinner parties, weddings, engagements or any social gathering, people tend to fill their stomach with starters. When we were planning for my son and daughter's weddings, we spent so much time discussing the starters and according to that it was then easy to choose the main dishes. For guests to appreciate the meal, the starters have to be the stars, then the rest just falls into place.    Whenever I'm entertaining at home, and if we're more than 10, I prefer to make starters that are easy to put together. This way I have more time to prepare the main dishes and desserts. If there's a pot luck or bring a dish along, I usually have to prepare the starters or desserts.     To have a tension free party preparation time, its best to plan. I write down the menu and the ingredients I need so that way I'm not like a headless ...

Healthy One Pot Meal     The #95 theme for #FoodieMonday #Bloghop group is One Pot Meal suggested by our group member Sujata . I nearly skipped this week as on Friday I had to close down my kitchen as we are travelling to India and then Canada. It's going to be nearly 3 months that I'll be away from home. Well, not that I am complaining. The first 14 days  its going to be time spent with my daughter and son in law and we'll be busy enjoying a wedding. My daughter's best friends are getting married. Then we fly off to Canada to spend time with her twin brother.      Usually when we travel, I tend to close down my kitchen a day before and order take away. However, our favourite restaurant Shaam e Bahar is closed for the whole month of Ramadan and we didn't want to try out any new take away place. Anyway, I had a bit of this and a bit of that left in the fridge so thought might as well use it up. Ideal way to use the left over veggies is to make a one pot meal...

Guest No.10          I was supposed to post this last week but the whole schedule got messed up. I had some posts that had to b live on certain dates (that's what happens when you're in too many groups!) and problems with the internet. It rained a lot last week and many places in Mombasa were flooded.           My 10th Guest on the blog, its my sister in law Heni. She's married to my cousin Hiren. His mum was my 3rd guest. She had prepared Tangy Creamy Potato Curry . I've not had much opportunity to spend time with Heni, but whatever time we spend together at my dad's home, their home or an outing, its  fun. When I first met Heni, she appeared to me as a very friendly, caring, loving and warmhearted person. She is a fun loving person, always smiling and ready to help any time. She is a great cook herself and my hubby loves her non vegetarian curries. She taught me how to make farali theplas . Along with my brother's wife, they b...
