MEGA BLOGGING MARATHON -SEPT 2017 #80TH BLOGGING MARATHON THEME: PROTEIN RICH DISHES DAY:10    When one talks about a vegetarian protein rich diet, they think that our meals maybe very boring with just dals, sabjis and rice or rotis. For this Mega Blogging Marathon, I've tried to showcase basic protein rich ingredients that can be made into some exciting, delicious, tasty meals. When one talks about tasty meals or dish, the first thing that I can think of is chaats. Yes Chaats.     So, what are chaats? They are basically a mixture of basic ingredients made into a lip smacking, tasty dish with a melange of all tastes...sweet, sour, salty, chili and not so bitter. Right from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, ( no please don't start singing the song Kashmir main tu Kanyakumari, north south ki doori....), chaats are very popular. It is said that chaats originated in Uttar Pradesh and are now a very popular road side/ street food all over India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and N...

Chaotic life                 Have you noticed how life in India can be so chaotic. Forget about getting problems sorted out in an orderly and calm fashion. Everyone thinks that the more you shout, the louder you are the problem will vanish. Shouting, loud accusations and chaos does not bring about solutions. However, after a bout of all this 'hangman' life carries on till we experience the next round of shouting which gets louder by the second and then suddenly peace and quiet rules. Has the problem been solved? Not at all but for many spectators it is entertainment. But isn't the chaotic life that attracts so many to India again and again?                 I am grateful that I'm right now sitting in my apartment where the surroundings are peaceful and quiet and cool breeze cooling my home and typing my post out.               It's Monday and time to present our #foodieMonda...

Angels are often disguised as daughters     The week just goes by so quickly. Every day I wake up and say to myself,  2more months, few more weeks before the wedding and so much to do. Yesterday when we were discussing with my future son-in-law and his mum what happens after the wedding ceremony, so it was like bidaai (farewell to the bride) will happen and we take Nami (my daughter) with us. I wanted to burst into tears at the moment, as reality is fast approaching that she will belong to some other family. I had to be really strong and keep a smiling face, but am sure that if hubby dear would have been with me I surely would have burst out crying. As I am writing this, I do have tears in my eyes and right now(Sunday night) am sitting along at the dining table and writing this post and can cry openly.      I nearly was going to skip this week's #FoodieMonday#Bloghop, our 58th one with the theme tea time savouries. But, as my blog is not only for food...

Floods everywhere    These days the news is mostly on the floods in Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya and how people are getting to work and back home. Traffic delays, flooded main roads, water in homes, power station shut down because it gets flooded, resulting in some areas going without power for hours or even days. Everyone is busy blaming the County. While that is true that the county did not prepare for the rains by cleaning out the drainage, its our fault too. Rubbish which includes plastic bags, plastic bottles, paper, cigarette boxes, food packages etc are all thrown mindlessly on the roads and the roadside. So many times I have seen hawkers leaving dirty and used plastic bags on the roadside, people having lunch or dinner and throwing plastic cups and plates on the roadside. Where does all this rubbish land up? In the drains and as a result blocks the drains. Blocked drains means water cannot pass through. Yes it is also true that more and more buildings are coming ...

Easy communication      WhatsApp has improved communication tremendously. You just need to be connected to an internet or wifi and voila... you're good to go. Its become easier to communicate with friends and family who are far from us or when we are travelling. So the typical messages sent are  'leaving for the airport', 'reached the airport', 'done with security and immigration', 'having coffee', 'boarding plane', 'boarded'. Then for a while its peace and quiet. As soon as one lands, the first task is to find out if there is free wifi at the airport. If there is messaging begins again. 'Lovely airport', 'immigration line very long', 'waiting for baggage', 'reached our destination', etc etc. While for most of this is really good because we can keep in touch with family and friends, sometimes whatsapp can turn out to a be a huge nuisance. If you are part of several groups, then your mobile is certai...
