Recipe Swap 3     Food Bloggers Recipe Swap is a group of food bloggers who prepare a dish from a blogger's blog. The group initiator Amber pairs up the participants. We then decide what we want to make from our partner's blog. Usually we add a slight twist of our own or cook it the way we like but the main ingredients remain the same. At the end of the month we share our recipe link on the FB page.    For the month of March, I was paired with a new member Sapana. Though she is new to the group, I've known Sapana for a couple of years through another blogging group. Since I've been following her blog for a couple of  years, I have several of her recipes on my 'to do list'. However, till date haven't made any of them. But as the saying goes better late than never. Before  I go into the recipe that I chose to make from her blog let me introduce to you this lady who is super talented. I simply love her photography skills and how she can make a regular recipe ...

Spreading Love    This is the first time I'm participating in the annual event #FoodBloggerLove Valentine's Day. This event is organized by PinterTest Kitchen . This blog is run by Sharon Boyer and her two daughters Allison and Jessica.  Basically, you sign up for the event (it was a group I'd joined to share recipes and to get to know other bloggers, but forgot about the group till I got the invite to join in this event). Here, it works like  secret Santa. I got assigned a blogger and some else will get me.The deal is to either prepare something from the assigned blog or prepare something that he/she would like.We share our recipes on the same day ( Please scroll down right to the bottom to see what other bloggers have prepared ). I was waiting with much excitement to see who I would get...seriously this is the first time I'm actually participating in this 'Secret Santa' game. Never ever participated in it but have heard all about the excitement and joy from m...

Healthy Curry Theme: Main Course with Gravy/Rice BM#85 Week 2 Day 1    Its good to back with the Blogging Marathon team. I enjoy the themes. However, I missed December as I was on holiday and January as I didn't have access to a kitchen. Every month Srivalli gives a choice of different themes and it becomes difficult to choose which ones to do. Keeping the healthy eating decision I've taken for 2018, I thought curries would fit that bill.     I know when most of you think of curries, you think of curries with lots of red chili powder, gallons of oil floating on top and basically unhealthy. However, let me assure you that most homes do not make curries that are floating in oil and color. My curries usually have a maximum of 2 tbsp of oil or ghee and no more. If hubby dear would find any oil floating on top he'll not enjoy the curry.     So for the next three days I will be sharing with you curries with different gravies or bases...

Those Tiny Spices Make All The Difference    It's really amazing how addition of small amounts of spices can make a dish taste so different. Every Indian household has it own spice (masala) box or dabba (tin) which we use for our everyday cooking. Some spices like turmeric powder and red chili powder will be standard in any spice box. The variations come with the other spices. Don't get me wrong, all the spices are used all over India but in some cuisine some spices are used in a larger quantity than others. My spice box has the typical  spices that will be found in the masala dabba of most Gujaratis. Mustard seeds(rai), Cumin seeds (jeeru), fenugreek seeds (methi), carom seeds (ajmo), turmeric powder (hardar), red chili powder (lal marchu) and coriander cumin powder (dhana jiru). The latter we tend to use in almost all the curry/ shaak dishes we prepare.    Why am I talking about spices? Well, I discovered a whole new combination of flavors when I made Santula...

MEGA BLOGGING MARATHON -SEPT 2017 #80TH BLOGGING MARATHON THEME: PROTEIN RICH DISHES DAY:6     Shopping at the Jean Talon and Atwater markets in Montreal is a foodies paradise. The bright, vibrant and fresh colors of the vegetables and fruits tempt the shoppers to overspend. I certainly go crazy when I visit the Jean Talon market which is about 30-40 minutes walk away from my son's home. For hubby and me its like a child going to the fun fair. We visit all the stalls, breathe in the sweet smell, feast our eyes on the produces sold, gorge on a delicious buckwheat crepe, shop and walk back. Its during one of our trips to the market that I came across a punnet of baby tomatoes. It was a melange of cherry tomatoes, green baby tomatoes, grape tomatoes, black cherry tomatoes and yellow baby tomatoes. I saw so many varieties of baby tomatoes for the first time. I knew I had to use that for a salad. So I'll be frank, this recipe was created around not a protein rich ingredient but rat...

An Arty City - Montreal    Street Art or Graffiti though mostly not legal in many countries, is art that is much appreciated by all. Its visual art created in public locations or places. Usually found on walls of buildings, sides of the highways, streets etc, usually in places where passers by can see it. It started as a form or way of expressing views on different matters to the public in general. Initially most artists used spray cans but today other medias are used like mosaic, stencil art, LED art, stickers, Lock ons (sculptures are attached to public furniture), wheat pasting used to make collages and papier mache.     When you walk around Montreal City you will notice some sort of creativity be it paintings on building walls, meaningful graffiti, different shaped benches, small gardens with blooming flowers, shop windows dressed to attract anyone, or even small balconies of apartments. People in Montreal are not afraid to express their artistic talents. I ...
