Team Love     For the past few days the weather has completely changed in Bangalore...its chilly cold and rainy. It could be due to the cyclone Ockhi that hit Kerala.Unlike homes in the western world, there is no central heating system so one has to wrap up pretty warm. I hate wearing a sweater as I find them too itchy so come evening and I wrapped myself in a shawl and topped with a thick bed sheet. After that didn't want to budge even a millimeter. Hot water and hot milk becomes one's best friend. It also meant that I didn't want to have my usual smoothie for breakfast. I wanted something hot that would warm up the body. What better breakfast treat is there than hot parathas and masala tea.      The #121st theme for FoodieMonday/Bloghop is Pushpita's recipes. Who is Pushpita? She is one of the members of the FoodieMonday group. In all we are 15 members. We usually take turns to decide on the theme. The 121st theme was to be decided by Pushpita. However, she h...

721. Sourdough Pita Bread

Happy with my "Princess"    A weird title, right? Well, Princess is the name I've given my sourdough starter. At first I thought it like a weird idea to name the starter. Everyone who successfully makes a sourdough starter at home names it. I was wondering why. Now I know. You actually nuture it like a pet. Feed it and make sure its in the optimum environment.     Most days Princess is happy sitting idle in the fridge but on occasions I take her out and actually make something. This time round I made sourdough pita bread. I used a combination of wheat and plain flours. The pita bread turned out super yummy. I love the slight sour taste and did I mention it was so much lighter on the tummy than the normal pita breads?     Go on make pita bread and enjoy it with some falafels or use it to make your favorite sandwich or just enjoy it with a dip.  I had one left over and next day I enjoyed it with a cup of masala tea. I warmed it up on a frying p...

Our Prayers are with you Theme: Surfing Through The Caribbeans BM #81 -Day 1   When Srivalli the initiator of the Blogging Marathon Group had set the themes for #81, and she came up with the theme Surfing Through the Caribbeans, she never thought that a natural calamity would literally surf through the Caribbeans. Hurricanes Irma and Maria have caused catastrophic damages to some of the Caribbean islands. Hurricane Maria followed Irma within 2 weeks barely giving the inhabitants of these islands time to get back to normal. It will takes years for some of these islands to get back on their feet. However, our well wishes are with them as many come forward lending time and money to rebuild these beautiful islands.     For the next 3 days I will be cooking some dishes that are very much a part of their daily meal in some of these Caribbean Islands. My first stop is the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, the twin islands. Famous for its carnivals, the birthplace of calypso ...

MEGA BLOGGING MARATHON -SEPT 2017 #80TH BLOGGING MARATHON THEME: PROTEIN RICH DISHES DAY:23    I t is believed that there is no super food in the Indian cuisine like sattu. What is sattu? Sattu is simply flour made from roasted chickpeas (brown ones) or chana as we know it. Its different from besan atta. Besan atta is made from raw chana dal whereas sattu is made from roasted ones. When protein powders were not available or made, olden time wrestlers, soldiers and body builders would have a glass of sattu mixed in water. Sattu is very rich in protein, calcium, iron, manganese, magnesium and a good source of carbohydrates too. Sattu drink is famous during the hot summer days as it not only refreshes the body but energizes you. Sattu is good for kids, elderly people and pregnant women too. In some parts of India sattu is made from roasted barley, millet or corn.     I love this amazing energy packed powder. It can be used in ladoos, to stuff littis for litti chok...

Happy Father's Day     A lot of importance, praise, appreciation, love and thought goes into celebrating Mother's Day. However, I feel that Father's Day has definitely drawn the short straw! It comes, cards are exchanged, gifts are bought and Father's Day is over. I feel that dads, papas, fathers, aboos, all over the world are less appreciated. I know my dad didn't help my mum to change nappies, bathe us, clothe us when we were young but he did so many other things for us(my brother, sister and me).    From what I gather, I always cried when my dad would come home for lunch even though I fed before his arrival.  So while having his lunch with his right hand, his left hand would be busy pulling the string to my hammock like 'godiyu' so that I may fall asleep.  My dad had protected us and provided us with whatever we required for our daily lives, right from school stuff to things we need at home. He protected us to the extend that we didn'...
