Superlicious  Theme: Explore Latin American Cuisine BM #77 Week 2 Day 1    Its my first time to join the Blogging Marathon . I've known about this group for quite a while as I follow most of the members. However, all this time I did not join the group as I found that perhaps blogging 6 new recipes in a month on specific days is a big challenge. However, I've just taken the plunge and am going to try out the waters.    So what is this group all about? Well, it was started by Srivalli who blogs at Cooking for all Seasons and at Spice your life . Members blog for any 2 weeks but for 3 consecutive days on chosen themes. For my first theme I chose to explore Latin American cuisine and you'll be surprised how many different varieties these countries have to offer. I wanted to make every veggie dish possible but was limited to the availability of ingredients.    My first choice for the Latin American Cuisine is a Mangonada or Chamango. Can you see the word ...

524. Papaya lemon jam

Its time to jam     One of my hubby's friend owns a farm. He often comes to supply the surplus produce to the greengrocer that I usually go to if I don't go to the market. He gives me either vegetables or papayas whenever I go there. Last week he insisted that I take 3 huge papayas. They all ripened at the same time. Now there is so much papaya one can eat. So the next option was smoothie or a jam. Smoothie didn't sound too exciting, especially when the tummy is full. I am glad I made the jam. Its so easy to make it. I should stop buying the local jam as there is no fruit in it, its too sweet, full of colour and citric acid taste. I used less sugar, but it tastes just right. You may wonder why I have added cumin powder. Papaya for our family means papaya, a pinch of salt on top and a liberal helping of the cumin powder... yum! I have used a recycled jar. I usually keep all the glass jars. So I have a variety of them, coffee jars, olive jars, etc. I just dip the clean jar in...

337.Green tomato jam

My first jam making session      I have over the years accumulated many jam recipes but have never tried making jam. I don't know, is it because I feel it might be difficult or I get scared to sterilise the jars. Don't know why. However, today Julius my househelp, walks in with a whole bag of green tomatoes from his farm. I got excited and instantly the recipe for the green tomato jam came out my recipe book. I was a bit hesitant as I had no idea how the jam would turn out. It tastes yummy and I had some with plain paratha as a snack in the afternoon. The jam is sweet and tangy at the same time. It didn't take long at all and I think now the jam bug is slowly creeping into my bones. Its funny how I get stuck onto certain things for a period of time, first it was salads, then bread, followed by muffins then the cookie bug took over and now it seems its jams. Planning to make some to take for my Nunu and my daughter, Nami as I am travelling very soon to India. Will try out ...

210. jam thumbprint cookies

a sweet treat When I was staying in Bangalore with Nami, we were hooked onto the jammie cookies for a while. Though sickly sweet, it was like a treat for us. Just as well they made small packages otherwise can;t imagine how many we would have gobbled. A little bit of jam appeared on top of the sandwiched cookies. Each packet had about 6 tiny cookies. I searched the net for jam thumbprint cookies and found countless recipes. The first time I made them, the cookies became too soft. I then read through a few recipes, read the comments and combined ideas from a few and came up with this one. Slightly crunchy and a wee bit chewy at the same time, but at least they stay for a while in the cookie jar without going all soft. I didn't like the ones where the jam was added after baking the cooking. I rolled them out pretty small, as I made them for the Annakut ceremony which took place at my aunt's place after Diwali. They looked pretty and dainty. Annakut is usually celebrated the day af...
