MEGA BLOGGING MARATHON - APRIL 2018 #87TH BLOGGING MARATHON THEME: EXPLORE THE FLAVORS - INTERNATIONAL BREAKFAST DAY 4 "Breakfast like a King, Lunch like a Prince and Dine like a Pauper."    Today for breakfast is D for Dutch Baby Pancakes. Before we go to the recipe, let me assure you it has nothing to do with the country Netherlands or the Dutch. These pancakes, also called German pancakes, A Bismarck or even Dutch puffs were made first by Victor Manca in his cafe in Seattle, North America. His daughter named them Dutch Baby Pancakes where perhaps her pronunciation of Deutsch sounded more like Dutch. The confusion now is whether they originate from USA or Germany. Either way, its my contribution for an International Breakfast Dish.    These pancakes are made using flour, egg, milk, sugar, vanilla and cinnamon.  Usually served with some squeezed lemon, sugar and butter or fresh fruits. These days there are many options to serve these baked pancakes, like fresh ...

The Holiday State    February is when Shhh Cooking Secretly group (started by Priya of Priya's Versatile Recipes ) had a virtual tour of Goa. Its been over 30 years since I've visited Goa. I remember when we were passing the town centre, there was a huge crowd of people. We asked the taxi driver what was going on and he replied "koi naya actor ki shooting chal rahi hai, aap ko dekhna hai?" he asked. We asked if he knew the actor and he said no so we didn't stop to watch. Who was the new actor? None other than Shakrukh Khan shooting for the movie Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa!    I remember we were staying at some hotel in town and would go to the Taj Holiday Resort to get onto the beach. Back then there were not many hotels. I remember getting to the beach and for miles there would hardly be anyone. There use to be a fish shack near Taj and hubby, my brother and my cousin would enjoy fresh fish and I'd get only French fries (fishy ones)!    Goa is  the smallest...

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder    Every Tuesday, the members of Foodiemonday/ Bloghop group wait in anticipation to see what a fellow member will suggest as a theme for the coming week. We all take turns in suggesting the theme. For the #132nd theme Mallika who blogs at A Foodie Housewife had to decide the theme. She suggested Edible Food Art and also gave us some examples. So some of us said no to the theme and some of us immediately said yes. Usually the majority win. All who said yes immediately, slowly began sending messages that they are not artistic and have no clue how to go about this theme. I was one of them. What came to my mind first was a pretty shaped bread, but then I do that now and then. Then I thought of cookies and seriously couldn't go through the stress of icing in my super hot kitchen... yes its just too hot in Mombasa! Finally, I decided to challenge myself with a nicely arranged food shapes which normally all mothers do to make their kids eat. ...

Bihar is in the East of India bordering Nepal. The Ganges flows through this state roughly dividing it into two parts, the east and the west. The three main districts of Bihar are Mithila, Magadh and Bhojpur. Famous for Bhojpuri films, birth place of Goddess Sita (Mithila), Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment in the famous Bodh Gaya and the birth place of the Mahavir and Vasupujya Tirthankaras of Jainism.    Bihari Cuisine is mainly divided into 3 - Bhojpuri, Maithil and Magahi Cuisine. Traditionally a predominantly vegetarian cuisine because of Hindu, Jainism and Buddhist influence. However, meat dishes are common in the Mithila region.Though present day cuisine is influenced by the neighboring states, Bihar is well known for its sattu . Its used to make cool drinks in ...

MEGA BLOGGING MARATHON -SEPT 2017 #80TH BLOGGING MARATHON THEME: PROTEIN RICH DISHES DAY:11     I have always envied bloggers who get all the ingredients they need for their recipes. However my hubby thinks otherwise. He claims that if I did have access to all the ingredients I'd be living in my kitchen,he would put on weight and my neighbors would not prepare food in their homes! Well, that's not entirely true. There are days when I don't even want to lift a spoon, forget about preparing anything. At that time making a simple khichdi too becomes a humungous task.    Since Srivalli announced the Mega Blogging Marathon theme, Veena a co member and blogger asked me why I wasn't taking part. I told her that I definitely will not manage preparing 26 dishes for this theme. After a few days I changed my mind and wrote to Srivalli. I wanted to take the challenge up and also because my daughter and I are always looking out for vegetarian protein rich di...

Food on Sticks is fun     The 109th theme for FoodieMonday, Bloghop is On A Stick decided by the initiator of this group Waagmi who blogs at Cooking is Funn . Just a few days ago my daughter in law posted some photos of their visit to Kuala Lumpur. She showed us food stalls serving all kinds of food on sticks or skewers. While most appeared to be meat and fish based, I could make out a few sticks of veggie stuff.    Serving food on sticks or skewers is fast becoming popular at Bars, Lounges, Dinner Parties, Cocktails,as Street Food as people don't want to get their fingers dirty and food on sticks or skewers does look pretty, colorful and tempting.    Just a few days ago I posted my paneer and naan bites . Its such a great way to enjoy tandoori paneer with tiny pieces of naan. For this theme, I was finding it difficult to choose what to make..... paneer lollipops, cauliflower Manchurian on sticks, fried baby corn, paneer tikka, even an ice lolly...that's fo...
