Recipe Swap 3     Food Bloggers Recipe Swap is a group of food bloggers who prepare a dish from a blogger's blog. The group initiator Amber pairs up the participants. We then decide what we want to make from our partner's blog. Usually we add a slight twist of our own or cook it the way we like but the main ingredients remain the same. At the end of the month we share our recipe link on the FB page.    For the month of March, I was paired with a new member Sapana. Though she is new to the group, I've known Sapana for a couple of years through another blogging group. Since I've been following her blog for a couple of  years, I have several of her recipes on my 'to do list'. However, till date haven't made any of them. But as the saying goes better late than never. Before  I go into the recipe that I chose to make from her blog let me introduce to you this lady who is super talented. I simply love her photography skills and how she can make a regular recipe ...

MEGA BLOGGING MARATHON - APRIL 2018 #87TH BLOGGING MARATHON THEME: EXPLORE THE FLAVORS - INTERNATIONAL BREAKFAST DAY 3 "Breakfast like a King, Lunch like a Prince and Dine like a Pauper"    We are once again going through water cuts...you read right not power cuts but water cuts. We're in the 21st Century and basic amenities like water, power and garbage collection are missing in the second largest city of Kenya. Its a shame! We live in what's suppose to be the upmarket area on the island and we've not had piped water ever since my hubby's family opted to live in this area. We heavily depend on the borehole which is not enough for 240 apartments. Now I have to get up early and race with the clock to get breakfast and lunch ready, get the washing machine going, wash up whatever utensils I used, fill buckets with water and take a bath all before 10a.m. By the time the maid gets to work half the jobs are done. Usually at this time we should be having the long rai...

Sun, Sand and Sea    For the past couple of days I've been spending some relaxing and fun time with my family at Watamu. Watamu is a small coastal town just outside Malindi. We're here to celebrate my aunt's(foi, bua) 90th birthday which is today. Yes, you read right, 90th. I decided to treat all my 3 aunts to a foot and arm massage at the spa run by Medina Palms. As I was filling in the form of questionnaires for her, when I came to the part of if she's taking any medication, she says very sadly ' yes, the doctor has prescribed Vitamins and Iron pills. Write that down". So I go but that's good for health and they only ask if you've got health issues. Basically, at 90 she's healthy, walking without a stick and has all her natural teeth intact. I seriously hope I have her genes. It's after a very long time I'm spending some rest and relaxation holiday with my family. All of them couldn't make it, but we're 13 of us, the youngest is 30...

Merry Berries    Berries in true sense are not the berries we all know... strawberries, mulberries, raspberries, blackberries etc. These in the botanical world are known as aggregate fruits. Berries are fruits produced from a single ovary. So in botanical sense tomatoes, cucumber, eggplants, bananas, pumpkins, melons are berries. Did you know that grapes too are berries? Yes they are.    However for our FoodieMonday/Bloghop #123rd theme, Berries we meant berries that we normally know. We had to prepare something using berries. Berries are small pulpy and often edible fruits. Before food was cultivated, berries were gathered by primitive men as a source of food, many animals feed on berries. It's probably presumed that during prehistoric time men may have sampled berries that animals consumed to supplement their diet.    Berries are considered power food, having the highest amount of antioxidants. Blackberries, goji berries and Indian Gooseberries (amla) to...

Assam - The Red River State    November is when the Shhh Cooking Secretly Group visited Assam. Assam is a state in the North East of India. Its strategic location makes it the 'Gateway to the Seven Sister States of North East India'. Assam's history goes way back to the ancient times, having been mentioned in the Mahabharata, was known as Asham during Aurangzeb's time and the British developed the tea estates  during the British Rule. Assam is well known for its flora and fauna and the famous tea estates. Assam itself has nearly 500 varieties of orchids. Its also known as the state of the  Red River due to the presence of the Brahmaputra. Its a state rich in culture and traditions. Coming to the Assamese Cuisine, Assamese are by and large non vegetarians. The staple food is rice. Their food is not too spicy or oily but is still rich in taste. They make use of naturally growing herbs and vegetables which is used in making fish and meat dishes. Most of the dishes prep...

Exotic Name, Exotic Dish    Diwali week is ever so busy in general, but more so for me this year as my maid decided not to come to work and to top it up came down with a bad flu and fever. So I nearly sat out this theme. What am I talking about? Its the FoodieMonday/Bloghop day. The #115th theme - Awadhi Cuisine was decided by Kriti who blogs at Krispy Kadhai.      I was really in no mood or didn't have the energy to really do any research on that cuisine. However, eat we all must whether sick or not and I had a huge slab of paneer staring at me whenever I opened the fridge. So, do you get those days when with much vigor and power you want to tackle all the jobs from top to bottom and from side to side? Well, I had one of those days...with a runny nose and a heavy head, tackled the house work, cooked lunch and baked a batch of cookies to give away as presents. I finally managed to turn the slab of paneer into an exotic sabji. Paneer Kundan Kaliya...just the nam...
