Merry Berries    Berries in true sense are not the berries we all know... strawberries, mulberries, raspberries, blackberries etc. These in the botanical world are known as aggregate fruits. Berries are fruits produced from a single ovary. So in botanical sense tomatoes, cucumber, eggplants, bananas, pumpkins, melons are berries. Did you know that grapes too are berries? Yes they are.    However for our FoodieMonday/Bloghop #123rd theme, Berries we meant berries that we normally know. We had to prepare something using berries. Berries are small pulpy and often edible fruits. Before food was cultivated, berries were gathered by primitive men as a source of food, many animals feed on berries. It's probably presumed that during prehistoric time men may have sampled berries that animals consumed to supplement their diet.    Berries are considered power food, having the highest amount of antioxidants. Blackberries, goji berries and Indian Gooseberries (amla) to...

MEGA BLOGGING MARATHON -SEPT 2017 #80TH BLOGGING MARATHON THEME: PROTEIN RICH DISHES DAY:23    I t is believed that there is no super food in the Indian cuisine like sattu. What is sattu? Sattu is simply flour made from roasted chickpeas (brown ones) or chana as we know it. Its different from besan atta. Besan atta is made from raw chana dal whereas sattu is made from roasted ones. When protein powders were not available or made, olden time wrestlers, soldiers and body builders would have a glass of sattu mixed in water. Sattu is very rich in protein, calcium, iron, manganese, magnesium and a good source of carbohydrates too. Sattu drink is famous during the hot summer days as it not only refreshes the body but energizes you. Sattu is good for kids, elderly people and pregnant women too. In some parts of India sattu is made from roasted barley, millet or corn.     I love this amazing energy packed powder. It can be used in ladoos, to stuff littis for litti chok...

Healthy One Pot Meal     The #95 theme for #FoodieMonday #Bloghop group is One Pot Meal suggested by our group member Sujata . I nearly skipped this week as on Friday I had to close down my kitchen as we are travelling to India and then Canada. It's going to be nearly 3 months that I'll be away from home. Well, not that I am complaining. The first 14 days  its going to be time spent with my daughter and son in law and we'll be busy enjoying a wedding. My daughter's best friends are getting married. Then we fly off to Canada to spend time with her twin brother.      Usually when we travel, I tend to close down my kitchen a day before and order take away. However, our favourite restaurant Shaam e Bahar is closed for the whole month of Ramadan and we didn't want to try out any new take away place. Anyway, I had a bit of this and a bit of that left in the fridge so thought might as well use it up. Ideal way to use the left over veggies is to make a one pot meal...

Happy Mother's Day A few weeks back, I was thinking of my mum and obviously missing her tonnes. I wanted the approaching Mother's Day to be less painful. Now don't get me wrong my kids (from 3 now I have 5 :) ) all shower me with lots of love. I thought why not get some of my blogger friends to celebrate this day with me. Its amazing how much closer we all have become and most of us poured our hearts out and e ach ones recipe is somehow, somewhere connected to their mothers.  I approached 25 and 19 responded with enthusiasm and sent heartfelt messages. So here's what each of them shared for Mother's Day.  Mayuri Patel: My mum loved her Gujarati snacks like handvo, khandvi and her most favourite was matar kachori. Made with simple spices it was the yummiest snack. Patiently, she would make tonnes of these kachoris for our huge family. Missing you so much mum. Matar Kachori Kriti Singhal Agrawal says: Being a Mom is the toughest yet most cherishing job ever.  This Mot...
