Recipe Swap 2        After Dawn paired us up for the January Food Bloggers Recipe Swap, I had every intention of immediately checking out my partner Sarah Schwarz's blog Cook At Home . However, that did not happen as I was in a holiday mood. When Sarah sent me an email asking me questions to know a bit more about me, I thought I too better get cracking. Marathon time!    Its Monday and our 34th #Foodiemonday #bloghop theme is #NoCookNoBake . So many doors open up with this theme right from salads, smoothies, summer drinks to desserts. Anything to get away from my hot kitchen. Global warming is seriously affecting world climate and yet we humans seem to see no end to our wants and cravings. Where have the days gone when a family existed on one small fridge, one television, one phone, only fans. The more we want, the more materialistic things are created and produced.To meet the demand, more factories are constructed. This means greenery disappears. I think every country in the world should make it mandatory that every building that comes up should be surrounded with trees and greenery. The green patches that I could see from my 8th floor window a few years ago are rapidly disappearing in the name of development. This does have an effect on our weather. where are the rains?      The main conversation these days where ever you go is the heat. People are getting fed up of the really hot weather and are praying for rain. Energy levels ebb, no breeze, every one sweating profusely, reaching out for ice cold water, drinks and trying to spend more time than necessary in the very few air conditioned shops we have in Mombasa. High electricity cost means most shops have only fans and some don't even have that. Men pulling heavy loads on a cart, women walking with babies tied on their backs and loaded baskets on their heads. Life has to carry on whether its hot or cold. I complain about the weather and immediately think of all those who have no choice but to work in the scorching heat.  irresistible   During my visit to Dubai, we popped into a huge supermarket Carrefour to buy some water, nuts and toiletries. The supermarket was twice the size of our humble Nakumatt, just down the road and I actually went green with envy at the variety of things available there. I have seen huge supermarkets in UK, but to think that everything under the sun is available in the desert! The vegetable and fruit section was huge with all sizes and types of mushrooms, fresh herbs could easily fit in my bedroom and fruits ...OMG, out of this world. We bought some huge juicy strawberries and what actually made me feel so proud was that out of the 5 to 6 varieties of mangoes available, the most expensive was from Kenya.... the humble apple mango. The reason it was the most expensive was because they are the best! If the best mango is available right at my doorstep, it has to keep appearing in my desserts.
