MEGA BLOGGING MARATHON -SEPT 2017 #80TH BLOGGING MARATHON THEME: PROTEIN RICH DISHES DAY:26     Today is the last day of the Mega Blogging Marathon and what an experience it has been for me. Planning, researching, deciding, drafting and commenting. I've thoroughly enjoyed this marathon. I've made new blogger friends, learnt so much about different regional cuisines from them and we have nearly 442 protein rich dishes between 17 bloggers. That certainly takes care of protein intake from starters to desserts. At this juncture I must thank fellow blogger Veena of Veena's Vegnation . She casually asked me why I was not taking part in the Mega Marathon and I replied I don't think I can post a recipe for every day for a month with only Sunday being the day off. After that I thought why not and wrote to Srivalli to count me in.     I love baking, be it cookies, cakes or breads. However, when it comes to decorating cakes and cupcakes, I probably have two left hands! Haven't

MEGA BLOGGING MARATHON -SEPT 2017/SHH COOKING SECRETLY #80TH BLOGGING MARATHON THEME: PROTEIN RICH DISHES/ANDHRA PRADESH CUISINE DAY:25    Here's another recipe that I've combined for 2 different themes. Last for this event, promise;) Well, has to be as we are nearly coming to the end of our Protein Rich Dishes for the Mega Blogging Marathon. The other group that I'm presenting this recipe to is Shhh Cooking Secretly , started by Priya of Priya's Versatile Recipes . From the month of September, the group is traveling round India state wise. No we're not on an actual journey (but that does sound good) but we're going to cook from different States of India. The first one is Andhra Pradesh. When Shobha Keshwani suggested this theme I was really excited as this will give me the opportunity to discover what each state is famous for. I no longer will associate South Indian cuisine as being the same in the south. There are variations depending on the States.    One th

707. Moringa and Mint Iced Tea

MEGA BLOGGING MARATHON -SEPT 2017 #80TH BLOGGING MARATHON THEME: PROTEIN RICH DISHES DAY:24     What is Moringa? Its considered as the 'new' superfood with plenty of health benefits. Moringa is what we know as drumstick tree, the tree of life, horseradish tree, ben oil tree etc. One can consume the pods, flowers, seeds and leaves of this tree. India is the largest producer of moringa. My all time favorite is making the pods or sarghvo as its called in Gujarati, in a yogurt and chickpea flour gravy.     Moringa powder is a rich source of protein, 28g in every 100g. It's one of the few plants that contains what is known as the complete protein. It easily can compete with animal based protein. It contains all the essential amino acids. Besides being rich in protein it is also rich in Vitamins A,C and E, calcium and potassium. It fights free radicals in the body to and therefore helps to keep the organs healthy, fights inflammation which is good to fight inflammatory diseases l

706. Sattu ke Parathe

MEGA BLOGGING MARATHON -SEPT 2017 #80TH BLOGGING MARATHON THEME: PROTEIN RICH DISHES DAY:23    I t is believed that there is no super food in the Indian cuisine like sattu. What is sattu? Sattu is simply flour made from roasted chickpeas (brown ones) or chana as we know it. Its different from besan atta. Besan atta is made from raw chana dal whereas sattu is made from roasted ones. When protein powders were not available or made, olden time wrestlers, soldiers and body builders would have a glass of sattu mixed in water. Sattu is very rich in protein, calcium, iron, manganese, magnesium and a good source of carbohydrates too. Sattu drink is famous during the hot summer days as it not only refreshes the body but energizes you. Sattu is good for kids, elderly people and pregnant women too. In some parts of India sattu is made from roasted barley, millet or corn.     I love this amazing energy packed powder. It can be used in ladoos, to stuff littis for litti chokha , add a bit to sabjis

705. Huevos Rancheros (Mexican Style Breakfast)

MEGA BLOGGING MARATHON -SEPT 2017 #80TH BLOGGING MARATHON THEME: PROTEIN RICH DISHES DAY:22    As I was going through my files, I came across this recipe in the draft. I had completely forgotten about it. I had prepared this delicious and filling breakfast dish for the Blogging Marathon theme Breakfast for the month of August which I had to back out of as I got too busy with guests. It was during one of my visits to Jean Talon market in Montreal that I came across a stall that had made fresh corn tortillas. These were made with white corn and not the usual yellow corn. I bought a packet as I had planned to make Huevos Rancheros. Oh well, perhaps this recipe was meant to be a part of the protein rich dishes. As we are nearly ending this Mega Marathon, I've realized that I've got so many other recipes that I'd wanted to prepare for this theme. However, like this breakfast dish, the others will appear in some theme or the other in the coming future.     What is Huevos Ranchero
